The Blue Ridge Orchestra began its inaugural season in the fall of 1999.  Since then, the orchestra has continued to grow in popularity and musical accomplishment.  The orchestra has held performances for the Asheville City/County plaza Fourth of July celebrations; they’ve entertained and educated over ten thousand school children through performances of Peter and the Wolf, and partnered with musicians from fiddle player Bobby Hicks to operatic tenor William Martin. The orchestra is comprised of accomplished amateur, semi-professional and professional musicians who volunteer their time in an effort to make orchestral music more accessible and affordable to the community. A nonprofit organization, the Blue Ridge Orchestra has established itself as a valuable asset in the arts community of Western North Carolina.

Cellist, composer, and conductor Ron Clearfield directs the orchestra. An honors graduate from the New England Conservatory of Music, he studied cello and conducting there. Ron was previously a member of the Indianapolis Symphony, the Miami Philharmonic, and the Asheville Symphony. He has performed with such pop notables as George Benson, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, and Dionne Warwick as well as with classical luminaries Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and Seiji Ozawa. Ron has released three critically acclaimed albums of his music and has scored for numerous television and film projects.

Tickets are $8.75 and are on sale now at the Fine Arts Theatre box office, downtown Asheville (828-232-1536).
